What is IELTS?

IELTS is one of the most widely accepted English language proficiency tests, used for education, work, and immigration. It is jointly managed by the British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia, and Cambridge Assessment English.

Purpose:
  • Required for university admissions, especially in the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • Also used for immigration and visa applications.
Format:
  1. Two types: Academic and General Training
  2. Sections:

 

    1. Listening – 30 minutes
    2. Reading – 60 minutes
    3. Writing – 60 minutes
    4. Speaking – 11–14 minutes (face-to-face or video)
Scoring:
  • Band scale from 0 to 9
  • Minimum band score for top universities: 6.5–7.5
Validity:
  • 2 years
