What is GRE?

The GRE is a standardized test used for graduate school admissions worldwide, including programs in engineering, sciences, social sciences, and humanities.

Purpose:

  • Required for MS, MA, and PhD programs

Format:

  • Sections:
    1. Verbal Reasoning – 2 sections
    2. Quantitative Reasoning – 2 sections
    3. Analytical Writing – 1 section
  • Can be taken online (GRE at Home) or at a test center

Scoring:

  • Verbal + Quantitative: 130–170 each
  • Analytical Writing: 0–6
  • Total: 260–340
  • Competitive programs require: 310–330+
